He married Alma Marks March 3, 1931 in Detroit, MI. Alma was born June 4, 1909 in Detroit, MI. Alma was the daughter of Joseph J. Marx and Hanna "Annie" Ascher. Alma died October 4, 2000 at age 91. Alma was listed as a daughter in Joseph J. Marx's household on the 1910 Census in Detroit, MI. In 1910, Oswold was a student attending school.

When Alma was age 27 and Bertram J. Gooel was age 31 they became the parents of Richard Arthur Gooel 1936 in Detroit, MI.
