He married Mellie "Jo" Josephine Taylor 1945 in Toledo, Lucas County, OH. Mellie was born January 26, 1915 in Lima, Allen County, OH. Mellie was the daughter of Walter Wilber Taylor and Iva Gertrude Leffler. Mellie died 1988 in Toledo, Lucas County, OH, at age 73. When Mellie was age 30 and John Wesley Blackwell was age 42 they became the parents of Barbara Jo Blackwell 1945 in Toledo, Lucas County, OH.

When John was age 42 and Mellie "Jo" Josephine Taylor was age 30 they became the parents of Barbara Jo Blackwell 1945 in Toledo, Lucas County, OH.

John Wesley Blackwell and Mellie "Jo" Josephine Taylor had the following child:
