He married Sophie Marchant June 7, 1882 in New York, NY. Sophie was born November 8, 1859 in New York, NY. Sophie died January 4, 1927 in New York, NY, at age 67. Her body was interred in Cypress Hills, NY, Shearith Israel Cemetery. When Sophie was age 23 and Joseph Edgar Phillips was age 32 they became the parents of Elward Jonas Phillips July 3, 1883 in New York, NY. When Sophie was age 25 and Joseph Edgar Phillips was age 34 they became the parents of Louis Mordechai Phillips August 3, 1885 in New York, NY. When Sophie was age 36 and Joseph Edgar Phillips was age 46 they became the parents of Geoffrey Samuel Phillips October 30, 1896 in New York, NY.

When Joseph was age 32 and Sophie Marchant was age 23 they became the parents of Elward Jonas Phillips July 3, 1883 in New York, NY. When Joseph was age 34 and Sophie Marchant was age 25 they became the parents of Louis Mordechai Phillips August 3, 1885 in New York, NY. When Joseph was age 46 and Sophie Marchant was age 36 they became the parents of Geoffrey Samuel Phillips October 30, 1896 in New York, NY.

Joseph Edgar Phillips and Sophie Marchant had the following children:

2 i. Sylvia M.² Phillips was born before May 22, 1915, the first event for which there is a recorded date. She married Rene Arbib May 22, 1915 in New York, NY. Rene died July 21, 1947 in New York, NY, at age unknown. When Rene was age unknown and Sylvia M. Phillips was age unknown they became the parents of Solita Arbib April 29, 1916. When Rene was age unknown and Sylvia M. Phillips was age unknown they became the parents of Edmund Joseph Edgar Arbib January 23, 1918 in New York, NY. When Sylvia was age unknown and Rene Arbib was age unknown they became the parents of Solita Arbib April 29, 1916. When Sylvia was age unknown and Rene Arbib was age unknown they became the parents of Edmund Joseph Edgar Arbib January 23, 1918 in New York, NY.

3 ii. Elward Jonas Phillips was born in New York, NY July 3, 1883. Elward died November 29, 1964 in Brooklyn, NY, at age 81. His body was interred November 30, 1964 in Cypress Hills, NY, Shearith Israel Cemetery. He married Miriam Ruth Illoway May 28, 1929 in New York, NY. Miriam was born December 8, 1888 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, OH. Miriam was the daughter of Jacob Lieb Illoway and Gertrude Kahn. Miriam died January 8, 1959 in New York, NY, at age 70.

4 iii. Louis Mordechai Phillips was born in New York, NY August 3, 1885. Louis died May 10, 1907 at age 21.

5 iv. Geoffrey Samuel Phillips was born in New York, NY October 30, 1896. Geoffrey died May 6, 1965 at age 68. He married Sylvia Berdie Hershfeld September 12, 1928 in New York, NY.
