3. Bendix "Benedict" Abraham³ Weinberg (Abraham Aron², Samuel Bendix¹ Levi) was born in WesternKotten, Westphalia, Prussia May 14, 1799. Bendix died March 26, 1890 in Darlington, SC, at age 90.

He married twice. He married Jannetta Nachman date unknown. Jannetta was born 1825. Jannetta was the daughter of Abraham Nachman and Sprinse. Jannetta died September 1844 at age 19. Her body was interred in Charleston, SC, Old Jewish Cemetery. When Jannetta was age 16 and Bendix "Benedict" Abraham Weinberg was age 42 they became the parents of Aaron Weinberg December 13, 1841 in Charleston, SC. He married Fannie Reis date unknown. Fannie was born February 3, 1828 in Cronheim, Bavaria, Germany. Fannie was the daughter of Isaac Reis and Hannah Baer. Fannie died September 5, 1878 in Charleston, SC, at age 50. When Fannie was age 18 and Bendix "Benedict" Abraham Weinberg was age 46 they became the parents of Abram Weinberg April 12, 1846 in Charleston, SC. When Fannie was age 19 and Bendix "Benedict" Abraham Weinberg was age 48 they became the parents of Caroline Weinberg December 24, 1847. When Fannie was age 21 and Bendix "Benedict" Abraham Weinberg was age 50 they became the parents of Amelia Weinberg October 9, 1849 in Charleston, SC. At the age of 14, in 1814, he joined the Prussian army, and was engaged on the battle of Ligny. He was at Waterloo under the famour Blucher, and often would share stories of the hard battle fought. He was a schoomate of Emperior William I, the grandfather of the present Emperor.

Benedict came to America in 1830. He was a member of the Masonic Order, and also of many Hebrew societies.

Arrived in Baltimore, MD on August 2, 1834 on the German boat Die Freunde, which likely sailed out of Hamburg. He was listed as Bendin Weinberg from Westercotten, and his occupation is listed as 'mercer', i.e, a dealer in dry goods. It is thought Benedict lived briefly in New York before settling in Charleston, SC.

The US Census lists Benedict as a tailor and a drygoods merchant.

Took on US citizenship July 31, 1871. Moved from Charleston to Darlington, SC ca 1885.

Tombstone is in old Jewish cemetery in Charleston, SC. It reads in Hebrew "Baruch ben Avraham haLevi", i.e. Benedict son of Abraham the Levite.

When Alfred was age unknown and Amelia Weinberg was age unknown they became the parents of Isaac C. "Bub" Strauss about 1870. When Alfred was age unknown and Amelia Weinberg was age unknown they became the parents of Mordechai A. Strauss about 1870. When Alfred was age 32 and Amelia Weinberg was age 24 they became the parents of Esther "Edie" Strauss August 3, 1874 in Florence, SC. When Alfred was age 32 and Amelia Weinberg was age 25 they became the parents of Bertha Strauss October 1874 in Mayesville, Sumter County, SC.
